The joy of flute playing

In my flute lessons for children, teenagers and adults I strive to awaken great enthusiasm and joy for the flute and for music, which has undoubtedly accompanied me throughout my professional life as a teacher and concert flautist.

Sound and technique

From the first lesson I encourage students to find pleasure and joy in developing a beautiful tone and radiant sound in their flute playing.

After a few initial lessons, beginner flautists are able to play their first pieces. Slowly and steadily they aquire the technique and musicality to develop their flute playing. The success of achievement thus motivates students to practise not only pieces regularly, but also scales and triads, which further expands their technical expertise. 

Once they have committed to practising technical and sound skills, students play pieces that are appropriate for their capability. They learn a repertoire ranging from simple childrens' pieces, classical Sonatas and Concertos all the way through to modern music and Jazz. I often combine this with playing duets, which is of especial value. Playing together is very important as I am able to directly demonstrate tone, rhythm, breath control, movement, technique and phrasing not purely as a teacher, but also as a duet partner.

Music theory

Using music examples, I explain the foundations and basics of music theory (e.g. scales, triads, harmony) to the students, which gives them additional confidence in music lessons at school.

Playing together

Once the children and students have achieved a degree of competence in playing together, I try and put together small Chamber Music groups or I motivate them to participate in already existing Ensembles. 

Students majoring in Music / PreCollege

In recent years, I have accompanied countless students with a focus on music through to their Matura and have successfully prepared many PreCollege students for Music Conservatoire auditions.
